Member-teachers at Burleson Classical Co-op foster the following values in their relationships with each other and with the students:

  • Hard Work - I work toward "mastery level: learning.

  • Self-expression - I am equipped to join the Great Conversation to understand and analyze and argue with the ideas of the past.

  • Excellence - As a member of the group, I can achieve a level of excellence above and beyond what would be possible alone.

  • Integrity - I exercise integrity at all times, especially when using copyright material, executing contracts, disposing finances, etc.

Q:

What is the cost?

A:

There is no tuition cost to attend Burleson Classical Co-op. We are a true co-op where parents are the teachers. We place parents in classes that draw on their strengths and we provide training and support in the summer and throughout the year as needed. Therefore we are able to offer high quality classes for free. There is a yearly family registration fee of $50 that helps cover the cost of website hosting and maintenance, and a yearly individual student supply fee of $50 per student that covers material costs. Teachers turn in receipts and are reimbursed from the class budget.

Q:

When and where do you meet?

A:

Burleson Classical Co-op traditionally meets on Thursday. When weather is cooperative we meet in member homes and Centennial Park in Burleson. When weather is bleak we have graciously been donated back-up space at The Church of Jesus Christ in Burleson.

Q:

Can I just pay and then drop my child off?

A:

No, this is a true co-op. You must participate in the full co-op day when your child is enrolled. You must remain on campus the entire time your student does. You are required to lead teach, assist, and have a cleaning duty every semester.

Q:

Do I have to do classical education at home in order to attend your co-op?

A:

Our members manage their at-home education in many different ways. We ask that all members become familiar with current publishers and philosophies in classical education so that they can most effectively contribute at co-op together. All our classes and curriculum are based on a classical education model that includes the trivium. Circe, Classical Academic Press, Institute for Excellence in Writing, The Well Trained Mind Press, and other classical education publishers are used to guide our curriculum and scheduling choices.

Q:

What is my parent commitment?

A:

The parent who primarily helps do the school at home is required to be at co-op when their children are at co-op. This parent will be assigned to lead teach at least one class during our school day, and will assist other classes during the other class periods. Additionally, the parent is responsible for teaching the assigned curriculum material to the children at home during the week.

Parents are respectfully asked to model attentive behavior during the co-op day and should only be on personal devices while in designated teacher lounge.

Parents that have off-periods during co-op may be pulled to listen to speeches/debates, and give constructive feedback.

Q:

What is the student commitment for my children?

A:

Children are expected to come to class prepared with the materials listed in their syllabus. Most classes will assign lessons to be completed at home before coming to co-op in order for the teacher to present a relevant and impactful presentation or activity in class.

Early education classes require children to follow directions and be kind to fellow classmates.

Speech & Debate requires students to write original speeches, deliver speeches during class/club, take appropriate notes, and ask pertinent questions.
